You Guys Are Killing Me!!!!

And no, I don't mean in the terrorist way that the FOB's would like to kill someone if you thought a horse was not a pet.....

I mean the information and down right funnies you guys are sending!

Today this blog is your one stop shop for FOB entertainment Photobucket

Let's start with a few articles.......A funny from Deadspin. And Barbaro is a Cheeto????

And this little blurb from the Church of Barbaro has me ROTFLMBFAO (the whole article is actually a good read :)

Alex Brown, wearing a yellow Fair Hill sweatshirt with holes in it, sits in front of his Toshiba laptop computer. He was drawn into this by happenstance, really. Painfully thin, he's a little too tall to be a jockey. There are scraps of paper and empty coffee cups and dead-soldier wine bottles and books and food wrappers piled high around him.

He lives here, set back from a quiet street, his house decorated in late bachelor, mostly with chess sets and photos of Barbaro.

Without Barbaro to rally around, the FOBs helped other horses, saving almost 600 so far, like this one named Mattie.

In the virtual world where he spends five hours a day, he's God. He created this universe. He banishes the disruptive. He offers redemption to the recalcitrant. He's learned he cannot get involved in arguments because his opinion is law. When he does speak, his words manifest themselves in the actions of a fan base desperate for direction. If he mentions a charity, it is supported. If he disses a charity, it is ignored. If he likes a book, it is bought.

One of my new favorite blogs.....Left At The Gate......and his blog about a recent sculpture that is getting ready to be released. If your into TB racing you should really keep this blog marked.

With the upcoming anniversary of Barbaro's death on Jan. 29th I suggest you have your generators ready.....you should see the lights of the big cities going dim when all the FOB's hit a candle site to light candles in memory of their baby boy.

A reader made me these pictures that is so very fitting for the upcoming event....enjoy because I sure did!!!!

And a little added bonus :)

Be sure and read the comments on this article.....the Canadians just love Bo Derek...

Ok, enough rambling.....I really need to conserve my energy for the 29th, I'm sure it's going to prove to be an amusing day!

I wonder how you have time to keep your horses (not to mention yourself) exercised with all the time you (apparently) spend trying to goad people who don't agree with your opinions...

It would be healthier to let go of this aggression... you got banned from Alex's forum so now you're hell bent on bad mouthing him and the people who post there. What a mature response...

Get over it and grow up.

Poor, poor clueless Alex - he doesn't ban people for any good reason besides he doesn't like their opinion. He obviously doesn't believe in freedom of speech. No wonder as he isn't even American yet he is trying to influence American politics.

FOB bashing is BUC's entertainment so get over it. Some of us find it amusing.

In regard to Buc's "Be sure and read the comments on this article" Re: Bo Derek; I, along with three of my friends (KF,Canadian Opinion and Mustang)are some of the people who commented on the article..I am "SF" ;o)
Hey Charlie!

Bonjour, writeon!

All is well with me and my Big Bay.

I've read some (not all) of the comments on the Bo Derek article. I wish there was a way to decouple horse abuse/neglect from horseslaughter.

People that are going to neglect their horses will do that with or without slaughterhouses. And since abuse and neglect are illegal, such people should be fined or (preferably) sent to jail.

I also wish there was more discussion of euthanasia as the right option for an unwanted horse. Euthanasia and disposal cost no more than a single month's care for a horse.

My last (sort of) comment, is for folks to stop this ridiculous assertion that horses NOT raised for slaughter are livestock and not pets. Here is the definition of "pet": Any domesticated or tamed animal that is kept as a favorite and cared for affectionately." The only reason my pet horse doesn't live in my house like my cats and dogs is because he's too damn big, can't be housebroken, and could inadvertently, due to the fact he is a prey animal (unlkike my cats dogs, and me), hurt me and others who live here. HE IS STILL A PET!!

writeon - hope I don't disappoint you (or BUC) - but I abhor horseslaughter. I consider slaughtering pet horses (like my 17hand TB) no less a betrayal than if I were to put my 10 and 15 year old cats in a crate and send them to China (or wherever they eat cats) for slaughter.

I also think very highly of the FOBs and Alex Brown and everything that group has accomplished for horses and horsepeople. The FOB tent is enormous - all different kinds of folk - some of those folks are maybe over the top, but everyone makes room for them. That's called mercy, or compassion.

Take care, writeon. Hope all is well at your horse rescue and you can find them good homes. They deserve that.

Charlie - Bravo for you that in your WORLD horses are pets. There are people in rural areas that own more than one horse and they are livestock! PERIOD. The grass that feeds their horses is the same grass that feeds their cattle. There is NO difference!

At this point it doesn't matter - those that are trying to stop slaughter, stop auction houses from selling to slaughter are pushing horse owners to keep animals they can no longer care for.

Those that are hell bent on punishing those that take underweight horses to auction by prosecuting them some how are going to make the owners that need to relinquish their animals keep them! Great, let's FORCE people to keep their horses no matter what! Brilliant idea. You guys need to visit the real world and understand not all horses have affluent owners that can afford to live in your fantasy world.

I grew up in rural Ohio where poor people had horses, I now live in Texas where poor people have horses. Maybe in a perfect world they shouldn't own horses but they DO!

Hopefully, anti-slaughter people will learn eventually after enough horses have suffered. Too bad horses don't have the luxury to live in the same fantasy world of the anti-slaughter movement.

hcit - Easy there, big fella ... I'm not up for a fight with you. We've both made our positions clear, and we're not going to convince each other otherwise. No need to attack. I grew up in rural Michigan in the Upper Penninsula, and there were poor people there who did not take care of their animals and poor people who did. It was a moral choice and not a fantasy. Let's just agree to disagree. Take care.

It's really depressing to drive down the road and see hand written signs saying horse or horses for sale. Sigh! Not the typical marketing techniques, this is something new and definitely not a good thing.

Charlie - BTW, I'm a 48 yo grandma!

Yep, we can agree to disagree. That is what we (supposedly pro slaughter) have been saying all along, agree to disagree but don't ban slaughter. Think how many horses could have been helped with all the money HSUS and AWI have spent on legal action and lobbying? Nothing but a big cluster F for the horses.

Second big sigh!

I have been trying to post this for three days now...It just won't go...Maybe this time will be the charm...Hope so!
Bonjour Charie, hcit, Buc and all!
Charlie, I abhor the slaughtering process of horses as well and I have never sent one of mine, or my rescue's to that fate. Euthanasia is the way to go, for those that are under my control. :o)
BUT, there is currently a crisis going on in the U.S. wherein unwanted horses are being starved due to the increased costs to feed same, turned out loose in any old place, deserted in barns and neglected to the point of starvation directly because all of the slaughter plants are closed. The aforementioned horses would surely have gone to slaughter, if it was an option.
Yes,unfortunately, there will always be abuse/neglect/starvation of horses aside and apart from the slaughter issue....
Horse rescues all across the U.S. are brimming over with horses and some, that took on more than they can handle, are having those very same horses seized from them (the rescues!!) by the authorities because they have neither the resources nor the manpower/money to manage the crisis. The authorities are struggling to keep up!
There has been a ripple affect here in Canada and our rescues are doing all they can to help with the situation at hand.
In Canada, horses are legislated as "livestock" whether you or I like it or not. As a result people who make a business by breeding horses etc...have a viable, tax deductable business.
In just the racehorse industries alone, either ST or TB, it is estimated that only 50% of each year's 'crop' will make it to the races. That leaves a lot of horses culled from within. Where are they all to go?
Another big contributor to the slaughterhouses is the QH industry. The number of horses culled from that industry, yearly, is huge as well!
When the slaughterhouses are all closed down, where are all these horses to go, if the current rescues and all the new ones opening up, can't handle the overflow?
The jest of the argument at the forefront of the article concerning Bo Derek is...Where are all these 70,000 to 100,000 horses going to go, annually, if there are no U.S.OR Canadian slaughterhouses?
It is a very, very sad day for the horse when uncaring owners desert the horse to fend for itself and/or literally starve it to death.
There is article upon article being published all over the states as a testament to this sad state of affairs.
An owner, who is not willing to feed a horse due to the rising cost of the feed, and having lost the option of 'shipping' the horse to recoup some of their revenue invested, is not likely to pay to have his/her horses euthanized at any cost. Sad.
Like I said, it is a very sad state of affairs and we all have to face the reality of the situation at hand, in the U.S. and here in Canada.
Meanwhile, those of us who can, will trudge onward, helping as many horses as we can.
In a perfect world, humane euthanization would be the option of preference but when you mention that it will COST an owner who is not making ends meet, you may as well talk into the wind. :o(
Take care, Charlie, and I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one with a house full of furry friends! ;o)

Buc, aren't you going to write anymore???

WriteOn said...

Yes, Winter, for the past few days, I've wondering the same thing. :o)
BUC, if you're sick; I wish for you a speedy recovery. If you are taking a break, I hear ya girl!!! After all, we don't pay you much for doing this job! lol
But we miss you and your sharp wit. Yes we do!!
Bonjour Charlie!
How are things with you? Do you live in the snowbelt areas or are you nice and warm?
I am in SW Ontario...ffffreezing!!!
Take care all!

We need Buc! Just got done reading a thread on ABR about some rescue justifying breeding her rescue horses. Couple people made some good comments about overbreeding, and they got torn apart! Guess we should stop slaughter, breed crap and have horses running loose everywhere. Wake up idiots. We need you Buc!

WriteOn said...

Good morning Winter,
Would you please give me the link to ABR?
Thank you! :o)

winterwonderland said...

Its Alex Brown Racing. Not sure how to do links. The thread I was so amused by was "Am I Understanding this Right". These people are so out of the realm of reality it's scary. And the people that are right are just disregarded. Sad.

Just for shits and giggles, check out the place called Mustang Hearts, they are fundraising for hay. They've included pictures of their horses sleeping in the hay that other's bought! It is spread out over an area the size of my roundpen! Good to know where all the donated money goes, to a big "crap pen". Have the ever heard of a concept called a round bale feeder?

WriteOn said...

Wow! It's been a while since we heard from BUC...Does anyone know if she is ok?
BUC - Where are you????
Charlie, HCIT, Winter..Do any of you know what has happened to her?
And, BTW, how are all of you doing?

MaryAinMI said...

I'm worried, too, Write On. BUC, even if you've decided to shut down your blog, please let us know you are OK.
